The newly formed police department was reinstated after city residents approved a measure to create a funding source in 2017. For nearly a decade prior, law enforcement was provided for city residents through a contract with the Iberia Parish Sheriff's Department. The department was officially sworn in on June 19th on the front steps of the New Iberia City Hall.
